Canned bubble tea vs. fresh bubble tea: what's the difference?

Explore how preparation, pearl ingredients, flavor choices and convenience shape two different ways to enjoy bubble tea.

Preparation and convenience

Fresh bubble tea is prepared at a tea shop or at home, often with freshly brewed tea and cooked tapioca pearls. A ready-to-drink canned bubble tea has a set recipe and is packaged for convenient enjoyment.

A fresh drink is usually intended to be enjoyed soon after preparation. For packaged drinks, follow the specific label's storage instructions and best-before date; storage requirements differ by product.

Different pearls, different experiences

Traditional fresh boba commonly uses tapioca pearls. DaoHer BOBA uses konjac-based pearls in its canned milk teas. Each approach brings its own texture, rather than being an exact substitute for the other.

Fresh tea shops may offer toppings and adjustments. A canned drink instead offers a consistent flavor recipe selected from the available lineup.

Compare the actual label

Neither format automatically means less sugar or better nutrition. Compare the nutrition facts for the specific drinks and serving sizes you plan to enjoy, and include toppings when assessing a fresh tea-shop order.

For ingredients and allergens, check the current label or the tea shop's ingredient information. Choose based on your needs, your flavor preferences and the occasion.
